The problem

Why most lead generation produces leads sales ignores

Most lead generation services are measured on volume: MQLs, form fills, content downloads, or a list of contacts that "match your ICP". None of those has spoken to anyone. Your AEs chase them, find that most were researching, students or the wrong person, and stop trusting the leads.

Bought lists and cold email agencies have the same flaw from the other direction. A reply or an open is counted as a lead, but nobody has checked whether the business fits, whether the contact owns the decision or whether there is any timing.

We generate leads the slower-looking way that turns out faster: a live phone conversation with the decision maker, qualified on the call. (If the real question is whether to hire an SDR yourself, see our outsourced SDR services.)

Our definition

What we count as a lead

A lead only counts when all three are true. We agree the detail with you in week one and report against it every week.

A decision maker reached

A live phone conversation with the person who owns the problem or the budget, at an account on your target list. Not a gatekeeper, not a generic inbox, not a contact record in a spreadsheet.

Qualified against your criteria

Checked on the call against the criteria you sign off in week one: ICP fit, role in the decision, a real use case or pain, timing and a budget signal. Anything that misses the bar is not passed over.

A next step agreed

The buyer has agreed what happens next, usually a meeting in your AE’s calendar, sometimes a technical session or a call with another stakeholder. A lead without an agreed next step is just a conversation.

What we never count as a lead

  • A form fill or content download
  • An email open, click or reply
  • A contact record on a bought list
  • A gatekeeper who “will pass it on”
  • Interest from a business outside your ICP
  • A conversation with no next step agreed

Why phone-led

Why phone works for Australian B2B tech buyers

Marketing lead generation is good at capturing people who are already looking. Most of your future customers are not looking yet. The phone reaches them and finds out, on the call, whether there is a real opportunity.

A conversation qualifies in minutes

A form fill tells you someone downloaded a PDF. A five-minute call tells you whether they own the problem, what they use today and when they are reviewing it. That is the information your AE actually needs.

Australian buyers are reachable by phone

The Australian B2B tech market is relationship-led and small enough that a well-researched account list can be worked properly. Verified direct dials and local-presence numbers get decision makers on the line.

A local voice, in local hours

Calls come from Australian-based SDRs working out of Sydney, during Australian business hours. Technical and executive buyers decide in the first ten seconds whether to keep talking; a researched, local caller earns that time.

Instant feedback on your message

Every call tells you how the market reacts to your positioning. Objections, competitor mentions and timing signals are logged and fed back weekly, so the programme improves instead of repeating.

The programme

How a lead generation programme is structured

Five stages, run end-to-end by us. You sign off the brief and the qualification bar; your AEs take the meetings. The calls themselves are run by our cold calling agency team.

Three-month minimum, then rolling monthly.

  1. 1

    ICP and list build

We agree your ideal customer profile, buyer titles and qualification criteria, then build a target account list to fit and enrich it with verified direct-dial numbers. You sign off the brief and the criteria before any calls are made.
  2. 2

    Calling

Dedicated SDRs work the list with repeated, well-timed call attempts to each decision maker. Openers and talk tracks are written for your product and reviewed with you before launch.
  3. 3

    Qualification

On every connected call the SDR qualifies against your criteria. A contact who is interested but not yet a fit is logged with the reason and a follow-up date, not passed to sales as a lead.
  4. 4

Handoff into your CRM and AE calendars

Qualified leads are booked straight into your AEs’ calendars with handoff notes, and every call outcome is synced to the prospect record in your CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and others).
  5. 5

    Weekly review

A weekly review of calls, outcomes and lead feedback from your AEs. The list, the message and the qualification bar are tuned on what the calls show. First qualified meetings usually land in weeks 2-3.

Buyer’s guide

How to judge a lead generation agency

Four questions that separate a lead generation company that builds pipeline from one that sells activity. The same questions apply if you are choosing an SDR agency in Australia.

Cost per qualified meeting, not cost per lead

A cheap lead your AE ignores costs more than an expensive one that turns into pipeline. Divide the monthly fee by qualified meetings held, then compare it with your deal value. Our SDR ROI calculator does the maths.

A written definition of a lead

Ask every agency what they count as a lead before you sign. If the answer is a contact, an open or a reply, you are buying activity. The definition should be your criteria, agreed in writing.

Transparency on activity and outcomes

You should be able to see dials, connects, conversations, qualified leads and meetings held, plus the notes from each call. Monthly PDF summaries with no call-level detail hide more than they show.

Onshore callers who know B2B tech

Who is actually on the phone matters more than the platform they use. Ask where the callers are based, whether they are dedicated to your account and how they are trained on your product.

Ask us directly

What is B2B lead generation?

B2B lead generation is the work of finding businesses that could buy from you and turning them into sales opportunities your team can work. Marketing-led lead generation does this with ads, content and forms, and produces MQLs. Phone-led lead generation, which is what we do, has Australian-based SDRs call decision makers at your target accounts, qualify them against your criteria and agree a next step, so what reaches your sales team is a sales-qualified conversation rather than a name on a list.

What's the difference between lead generation and appointment setting?

Lead generation is the whole top-of-funnel programme: deciding who to target, building the list, reaching decision makers and qualifying them. Appointment setting is the last step of that programme, turning a qualified conversation into a meeting in your AE’s calendar with handoff notes. If the booked meeting is the only outcome you care about, see our appointment setting services. In practice our programmes do both.

Do you run email or LinkedIn lead generation?

No. Uplift Sales is phone only. We do not run cold email sequences or LinkedIn outreach. All of the SDR’s time goes into live calls with decision makers, because a conversation is the fastest way to find out whether someone is a real lead.

How is lead generation priced?

Every engagement is scoped. On the first strategy call we look at your ICP, sales cycle and coverage target and come back with a fixed monthly figure covering the SDR, data and list building, dialler, scripts, weekly reviews and reporting. We recommend judging any lead generation agency on cost per qualified meeting held, not cost per lead. There is a three-month minimum, then it runs rolling monthly.

How quickly will we see leads?

Setup takes up to two weeks: the brief and qualification criteria, list build, scripts and SDR training. Calling starts at controlled volume and first qualified meetings usually land in weeks 2-3.

Do you work with companies outside Australia?

We work primarily with B2B technology companies targeting the Australian market, Australian-headquartered vendors and overseas vendors expanding ANZ coverage. If your target buyer is entirely outside Australia we may not be the best fit, and we will say so on the first call rather than take an engagement we can’t deliver on.

Is this the same as telemarketing?

No. Telemarketing usually means high-volume, scripted calling measured on dials. We run B2B lead generation for technology companies: Australian-based SDRs call researched decision makers, hold a consultative conversation about a real problem and qualify against your criteria. It is phone-led, but it is not volume telemarketing.

What industries do you generate leads for?

B2B technology only: SaaS, cybersecurity, AI, fintech, healthcare tech, HR tech, MSPs, developer tools and enterprise software. Our scripts and qualification are built around how technical and executive buyers make decisions, so we do not take consumer or non-tech work.

Want leads your sales team will actually take?

Book a 20-minute strategy call. We'll look at your ICP and current lead sources, and tell you honestly whether phone-led lead generation is the right move.
